Look Who's Talking

Many of you already know my little guilty secret: I TEVO Oprah every day. I don't watch all the shows since many aren't all that interesting to me - they are instantly deleted. Some of the shows, when she seems to be scraping the bottom of the barrel, are about murder and mayhem and since bad juju stays around for awhile - in my mind, in my energy field - I have a delete-before-watching policy for those shows, too. But this week she had a winner that's good enough to share with you.

It's about how our babies try to communicate with us, and is especially useful from birth to about three months, that trying period when Moms are tearing their hair out. Remember this scenario? At first Babycakes is fidgety then restless then unhappy then finally screaming and red faced and totally out of control. I remember too well that feeling of helplessness. (What? For Gods sake, tell me, what do you want? What can I do? What!)

A new Mom - Oprah had her on the show - realized one day that her baby was trying to communicate with her. She then listened and watched closely and discovered a pattern of sounds that she was then able to translate into "words" that she could then put into the actions that would calm her baby.

If you know the language, you can stop all the hysteria at the fidgety or restless stage when they are actually "telling" you what they want. Then, amazingly, everybody is happy.

There are five sounds and here they are:

NEH: This means "I am hungry."

OWH: This means "I am sleepy."

HEH: This means "I am uncomfortable."

EAIR: This means "I have lower bowel gas."

EH: This means "I need to burp."

Of course, Oprah had many videos of babies saying NEH and EH etc, and by gum, it works. When you know what you are looking for, what the baby is trying to communicate to you becomes quite obvious. As soon as Mom learns the words and knows that the EH means "I want to burp," or that the OWH means "I am sleepy," she can immediately do what the baby is asking for thus avoiding tantrums and catastrophe.

Have a great Thanksgiving and remember to take your digestive enzymes (2 Zypan or 2 Biogest or 2 Dipan-9) in case you partake too vigorously from the groaning table.

And since this is the season of gratitude and giving thanks, I want to thank you for being in my life. I am so grateful for all of you.
