Archived News of the WeekHealing Your Leaky GutNow that we have gotten rid of your slithery things, how do we heal your injured and leaky gut so you have a fighting chance of the baddies not taking up residence in you again? First of all, with resistant dysbiosis, or for those of us who tend to get infected over and over again - like me and my parasites – I think it is a good idea to take preventive supplements. Any "ferment" will help as well. Eat good sauerkraut and yogurt on a daily basis. I have also found a product at the health food store which is an uber-ferment: It's called Vegi-delite Deluxe Zing Salad, made with organic beets, cabbage, carrots, lemon, dill and garlic. It's quite strong tasting, but good either by itself or I like it mixed with cottage cheese. Make your own rejuvalac (the water from grain ferment) and cleanse yourself a few times a year by drinking a couple pints a day for a few days. Ask me for the recipe. It is crucial to keep a stable population of friendly bacteria (probiotics) in your gut at all times. There are also some traditional gut healers that I routinely suggest for healing the leaky gut: L-glutamine which is gut-healing amino acid. It comes in a white, sweet and tasty powder and you take lots and lots of it like 15 grams per day. Morinda Supreme which is a new and fabulous product on my shelves has also been shown to keep esp. prone patients dysbiosis-free. Morinda is very broad spectrum and will address almost any dysbiosis you might have parasites, yeast, bacteria, virus not only killing unwanted interlopers, but preventing their return. It is pretty intense in flavor but not unpleasant, and particularly tasty taken in pomegranate juice. I am taking a couple scoops per day as part of my own prevention program. It is also v. important to keep your immune system strong get plenty of sunlight, avoid exposure to known toxins, avoid drinking unfiltered tap water from the community system or from a well, exercise for lymph flow, relax, consume more garlic and pumpkin seeds, drink plenty of fluids, balance your diet, honor your food allergies, eat for your metabolic type, restrict your grain carbohydrates and by all means, lose the sugar! Parasites, yeast in fact, all kinds of critters LOVE sugar. It is their main food source. We have to improve your digestion, too. Very often, people lacking hydrochloric acid (that includes those of you on acid-blockers) - which is secreted in the stomach in the primary stage of digestion - can't digest the parasites or fungi that are coming through. So, I may recommend that you take digestive aids which may include HCL and a variety of pancreatic enzymes with every meal for awhile, or maybe even forever. Older people lose much of their digestive fire and the ability to produce an adequate amount of enzymes, so we may need to continually replace them for optimal health and digestion. I also have found a wonderful recipe consisting of a probiotic, colostrum, L- glutamine and zinc carnosine. You mix it all up with butter, olive oil and a bit of honey or agave, then spread a teaspoon on your toast in the morning. I am doing this daily and I feel that my digestion is stronger. When you really grok that a great percentage of your precious immune system that wonderful thing that keeps us healthy and free from the illnesses that may kill us - resides in your gut, you will embrace gut health with a renewed enthusiasm. Gut health = longevity = aging well and looking good = equanimity. Result: Zest for Life!
