Health and Longevity: Exploring Two New Products

Let's revisit antioxidants. Oxygen, which is essential to our life is actually not your very best friend: With every breath we take, we rust from the inside out. As we breath to stay alive, (and we must, so don't try to stop) some of the oxygen gets converted inside of our mitochondria into "free radical" molecules. They, in turn, end up degrading the same cells that the oxygen purported to help. These unruly free radicals bounce about inside our bodies, and like a passel of psycho two year olds let loose in Toys R Us, they tear all the toys off the shelves, disrupt cell membranes, eat into neuron sheaths, shift the shapes of DNA strands, and muck about in just about every vulnerable part of our body they can get their sticky little hands into. The end result? AGING, ILLNESS, DEATH. That's the bad news. Buck up and read on for. . . the REST of the story.

Antioxidants are the answer to the prevention of the free radical damage caused by just living and breathing, and by extrapolation, one of the answers to health and longevity. I suggest everyone flood themselves with antioxidants: Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Acetyl-l-carnitine, resveratrol (from red wine), bioflavenoids just to name a few.( I have several antioxidant products on my shelves, and personally, I dip into all of them on a daily basis.) Especially potent are the antioxidants in the actual organic foods themselves, like blueberries, cherries, oranges, raspberries, red grapes, beets, broccoli, corn, kale, red bell peppers and spinach.

We should all be eating 10 portions of fruits and veggies daily, but come on, how realistic is this? It's my JOB to be healthy and to help you be healthy and even I (your leader) have trouble being consistent about this on a daily basis.

So I was thrilled to find this new product called Greens First. One scoop per day gives you the antioxidant power of over 10 servings of fruits and vegetables. A great tasting green powder which you stir in cold water in the morning and drink down before eating. While most "green" powders taste like the inside of a dirty fish tank, this one tastes not only healthy and vital, but sweet (stevia-sweetened) and inviting. I think this is why my patients are coming back for their second and third cannisters. Remember, this is not a protein powder, so it should not take place of your morning scoop of that; it is only antioxidants.

Here are some of the ingredients: Barley grass, chlorella, spirulina, a vegetable blend including carrots, broccoli, spinach etc, a fruit blend including blueberry, plum, grape seed extract etc, a fiber blend, enzymes, probiotics, sprouted barley malt, green tea extract, resveratrol, milk thistle, aloe vera gel, turmeric, kelp and licorice root extract. YUM!

I have been having a daily morning dose for about month and a half now and have noticed two things: My brown eyes are lighter and more hazel-y, and my skin seems to be finer.

The cannister is $39.95 and lasts one person taking a daily scoop, one month. I have heard NO negative reports with this product which is in itself, rather amazing.

Number two on the agenda: We all know how STRESS makes us old fast and gives us ulcers, insomnia and scary, gnarley diseases. We also know that meditation would be a good thing to do on a daily basis. But I have heard many of you say that you can't find the time, that your "monkey mind" keeps getting off the meditation track and on to the what you are going to have for dinner track, and that you get discouraged and impatient and that you just end up not doing it. Well, that could be me we're talking about, folks. I know I SHOULD meditate, but do I? No. Do I think about it every day? Yes. Am I stessed out over NOT meditating? YES!

I was thrilled to find a CD called Insight. All you hear is the sound of rain, not cheesy annoying rain, but wonderful soothing rain that you want to listen to all day long. Or at least for 24 minutes. But it's not just the sound of wonderful rain. Some audio-genious has harmonically layered a combination of frequencies and binaural beats underneath the sound of the rain (you don't hear this stuff, just the rain) which within 24 minutes has me into a conscious yet drooly state of deep relaxation.

And here is what appealed to me the most, Misswantseverythingreallyfastwithoutworkingatit: " Your brain reaches extraordinary levels of consciousness not normally attainable without years of practice!"

The Insight CD is designed to help the right and left sides of your brain to work in concert with each other, to have the electrical activity in your brain become more widespread throughout your brain instead of remaining confined to certain areas, it reduces stress, increases levels of energy and motivation, improves sleep, you can achieve deep meditative states, it improves concentration and clarity, increases focus, attention and creativity.

The Insight CD is $34.95. But if you cough up around $52 (includes S & H), you also get the Focus CD which is meant to be listened to while you are studying, working around the house, being creative etc. (Insight is supposed to be listened to quietly, eyes closed, just like meditating. ) I got both tapes, but so far have explored only the Insight CD. I am sold.
